Tom Huddlestone is convinced England can win the European Under-21 Championship.

Tottenham's promising midfielder was one of the driving forces in Tuesday's 5-0 friendly victory over Slovakia at Carrow Road.

And he firmly believes Stuart Pearce's Young Lions have the ability to emerge as the best in Europe.

Pointing the way to European success: Tom Huddlestone

"We have lots of talent and now I think it is a question of having the bottle to perform on the tournament stage," playmaker Huddlestone said.

"England's seniors have not gone as far as they wanted in recent tournaments. But we are certainly going there full of confidence and for some of the players it will be their last tournament at this level.

"The lads are buzzing and full of confidence after the 5-0 win against Slovakia. We hope we can go all the way. We are confident, though so were the senior players.

"Why will we be different? We have played well, confidence is high and we are unbeaten this year."

And former Derby star Huddlestone also told the Daily Mirror: "It is going to be a tight tournament, no doubt about that. Italy and the Czechs will be a big threat.

"But we are a great football nation and we have to prove that. David Nugent, Kieron Richardson and Steven Taylor have been away with the senior squad and got lots of international experience and all but a couple of our guys play in the Premiership."
