Webster ankle not broken

12 April 2012

Hull KR captain James Webster could be back in action for the Hull derby on Easter Monday after X-rays revealed he did not break his ankle in Rovers' 30-12 defeat at Warrington.

The Australian scrum-half has been told he faces a lay-off of between three and four weeks after sustaining ligament damage.

Coach Justin Morgan said: "He'll obviously be missing for the next couple of weeks. It's a relief it's not a long-term injury but we still have some very important games coming up."

Morgan may decide to give 20-year-old reserve scrum-half Matt Brooks a Super League baptism against champions St Helens at Knowsley Road on Friday, but is more likely to re-shuffle his side to offset the absence of Webster.

"I'd have every confidence in Matty if I picked him for the Saints game," he added. "He has played plenty of under-21s rugby this season so he is fit enough.

"I also have Stanley Gene who can play at either half-back position and I could move Ben Fisher there and I also have Pat Weisner to consider.

"With the short turnaround, I might be tempted to go for someone who has played the last few weeks and who has a bit more experience because they will be used to the rhythm."
