Whitmarsh seeks landmark win

McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh is looking for a landmark victory in this weekend's Korean Grand Prix.

The race marks the 700th in the team's history from their debut in 1966 in Monaco, since when they have won eight constructors' titles, 12 drivers' championships and 174 grands prix.

"I know both our drivers would dearly love to score a one-two for the team to further prove we have a superbly competitive car at the moment," said Whitmarsh. "It's a matter of considerable pride to the whole team that this weekend's race will mark McLaren's 700th Formula One grand prix. That's a massive achievement, so I hope we can crown it with another victory."

Whitmarsh, though, has two drivers enduring vastly contrasting form as Jenson Button has been on the podium in his last five races, winning twice.

As for Lewis Hamilton, he has not finished in the top three in his last five grands prix, the second worst run of his F1 career without a podium.

Whitmarsh added: "Jenson's fantastic victory was a great reward for him after some of the most impressively consistent driving of his career.

"He's in fantastic spirits, and I know he's feeling incredibly positive about following up that win with another great result.

"Lewis, too, is keen to convert his pace into a strong result.

"He showed in Singapore and Suzuka he had the pace to put the car on pole position, but was unlucky to lose out for a variety of different reasons.

"It seems like luck is against him at the moment, but knowing Lewis he will bounce back stronger than ever."
