Woods loses lead

12 April 2012

Justin Rose and Robert Allenby took advantage of an off-day by Tiger Woods to move into a tie for the lead at the Deutsche Bank Championship on Saturday.

Woods, who is seeking his fifth consecutive victory, was slow out of the traps and never fully recovered at TPC Boston, a one-over-par 72 dropping him two strokes behind the leaders after the second round.

Englishman Rose posted a 69 while Allenby of Australia made a hole-in-one in a five-under round of 66 to finish at six-under.

Woods began Saturday in an all-too familiar spot at the top of the leaderboard after an opening 66, which gave him a one-shot lead. However, he had just two birdies on Saturday and bogeyed two of his first four holes.

Starting his round on hole 10, Woods was two-over at the turn with his only birdie coming on the par four sixth. At four-under, he is in a group of three tied for third.

Rose's round included four birdies and two bogeys, while Allenby made the biggest move of the day in blustery conditions.

Like Woods, Allenby began at hole 10 and finished his front nine with a flourish, carding his first birdie of the day at the 15th and following it up with a hole-in-one at the par-three 16th with a four-iron from 215 yards.

Allenby added birdies at 17 and 18 to make the turn at five-under after a 30 on his first nine, before two bogeys and two birdies coming in helped him to grab a share of the lead.

Defending champion Olin Browne fired his second two-under 69 and is tied with Woods at four-under.

Australian Aaron Baddeley, who was playing with Woods, also joined the world's top-ranked player in the clubhouse at four-under after a round of 71 that included a pair of bogeys on his first nine and two birdies coming in.
