World Cup chance for Boat Race rivals Constantine Louloudis and George Nash

13 April 2012

Constantine Louloudis and George Nash have been rewarded for the early-season form which took them to fourth place in the Great Britain rowing team senior trials with a call-up to race at the World Cup in Lucerne.

The duo, who are still aiming for this year's World Under-23 team but who have shown potential for London 2012, will join world silver medallists and Olympic men's four gold medallists Andrew Triggs Hodge and Pete Reed in competing at the July 8-10 event.

Londoner Louloudis and Nash, from Guildford, competed for rival universities in this year's Boat Race but came together for the national trials. They both learned to row at school, both are former world junior champions in the men's four and have each won world Under-23 medals.

GB team performance director David Tanner said: "Both have shown their pedigree at junior and Under-23 level and impressed at the senior trials in April.

"They will want to use this opportunity to prove themselves in the senior arena now the exam season has finished. They are certainly names on the GB rowing team radar for the future."

Louloudis and Nash won't be at this year's Henley Royal Regatta, which starts tomorrow, but there will still be a strong representation from Team GB. Beijing Olympic medallists Matt Wells (double sculls) and Cameron Nichol (men's eight) will be on the Thames competing in Henley's unique head-to-head knockout racing format.
