On the sidelines: Andy Murray will miss the Japan Open as he attempts to recover from his wrist injury

Andy Murray has pulled out of next week's Japan Open to ensure his injured wrist fully recovers.

The world No3 played with the problem during Great Britain's Davis Cup defeat to Poland two weeks ago but will miss the Tokyo event on medical advice. A statement on his website said: "Andy is very close to resuming full training. The wrist will be assessed again at the weekend"

World No2 Rafael Nadal will play in next week's China Open after recovering from a stomach injury.
