Xavi: Barca can conquer Old Trafford

12 April 2012

Barcelona midfielder Xavi led the chorus of rallying cries in the Catalan ranks as Frank Rijkaard's players remained confident of reaching the final of the Champions League despite Wednesday night's stalemate with Manchester United.

Rijkaard's side could only draw 0-0 at home in the semi-final first leg, but Xavi, Samuel Eto'o and Gabi Milito all insist the club can prevail at Old Trafford on Tuesday to qualify for next month's final in Moscow.

"The only thing missing was the goal and that leaves a bitter taste in the mouth. We dominated the 90 minutes. We are happy with the image we gave, but not the result," he said. "This team is capable of going to any ground and winning, so I have no doubt we can make the final."

Eto'o, who missed Barcelona's best chance of the match when he shot into the side-netting in the second half, also lamented his side's failure to score.

"Scaring the opposition is not enough. We ran all night, but we couldn't find a goal and that is a shame," he said.

The Cameroon striker added confidently: "0-0 is not a bad result at all. A goal away from home is worth double and we can definitely score at Old Trafford."

Milito, meanwhile, claimed the result was was scant reward for Barca's domination..

"The result is unfair because we deserved to win, but it is not a bad result and there are still 90 minutes left in the tie," he said.

The Argentina defender, who gave away a third-minute penalty which was missed by Cristiano Ronaldo, believes Barcelona are due some good luck in front of goal after three consecutive goalless draws at home.

"We have had some bad luck. We have created some very good chances in the last few games, so I don't think we should worry," he said. "The important thing is that we are creating chances and hopefully our luck will change soon."
