Jay McGuinness has secured the first 10 of the new Strictly Come Dancing series with his jive to a Pulp Fiction medley which was hailed as the "best dance ever".

The Wanted singer received 37 points and a standing ovation on finishing his dance with professional Aliona Vilani and was showered with praise by the judges.

Bruno Tonioli said that he “out-done and out-danced [John] Travolta and everyone here tonight" before deeming it the "best dance ever”.

Darcey Bussell called McGuiness the "coolest guy in the competition" while resident meanie Craig Revel Horwood said: “That is a level of technique we have never seen ever. Amazing”.

It was Saturday night at the movies for the celebrities as they channelled their favourite film stars.

EastEnders actress Kellie Bright took second place with 32 points for her Star Wars charleston with professional Kevin Clifton.

She was joined in second place by Call the Midwife star Helen George who let loose her inner Marilyn Monroe as she danced the foxtrot to Some Like it Hot.

Revel Horwood described it as “absolutely gorgeous” while Len Goodman joked: “Some like it hot I like it elegant – and that’s just what I got.”

Last week's leader Peter Andre received 28 points - his lowest score to date - for his Pirates of the Caribbean performance which saw him swing onto the dance floor and save Janet Manrara from walking the plank.

Tonioli said it was "balmy and whacky" with all the "energy of Captain Sparrow" but it was criticised by Revel Horwood who said it was a "bit stumpy".

Unfortunately for Carol Kirkwood she found herself at the bottom of the leader board with 17 points following her "limp, lame and very lacklustre" quickstep to Wash That Man from South Pacific.

Strictly Come Dancing is on tomorrow night on BBC One at 7:15pm.
