Win a gastronomic trip to Alsace

5 April 2012

The French love life and have a joie de vivre, especially when it comes to food and drink — and if there's one day when they really go to town it's Bastille Day on July 14. In celebration of the national day, Kronenbourg 1664 has teamed up with Tourism Alsace to offer a gastronomic experience in the true home of France's favourite beer.

Located in the north east of France bordering with Germany and Switzerland, Alsace is a food lovers' paradise situated between the River Rhine and Vosges mountains. It offers a unique combination of continental Europe on beer culture and is a popular destination with all those interested in gastronomy.

While proudly French, Alsace has a strong Germanic background with both cultural and gastronomic influences and is also recognised as a fine wine growing and brewing region. Alsacians are big beer drinkers, consuming 70 litres per head each year compared with the French average of 38 litres.

Alsace boasts a sea of Michelin starred restaurants as well as traditional winstubs and brasseries. The French are passionate about the harmony of good food with wine and beer and Kronenbourg 1664 is popular as an accompaniment to many fine cuisines.

We're offering one lucky reader and their partner the opportunity to win the ultimate Alsacian experience courtesy of Les Grandes Etapes Françaises. Flying from London to Strasbourg winners will be chauffeur driven to Chateau de I'lle — two miles from Strasbourg and on the banks of the River I'lle to enjoy a two night stay in this prestigious hotel. Meals will be provided in the winstub featuring traditional Alsacian fare and the Asszimmer at the heart of French cuisine.

Indulgent treatments and an 'AquaDouce' can also be enjoyed in the Chateau's spa before heading into Strasbourg to discover the stunning architecture and historical treasures. After two nights, it's on to Chateau d'Isenbourg in Rouffach for one final evening in the heart of this stunning Alsacian vineyard to savour more local fare and wines.

And if you're not lucky enough to win the Alsace gourmet experience, we've got 10 cases of Kronenbourg 1664 Premier Cru to offer runners up. Billed as a moment of pure indulgence Premier Cru is a slow-brewed, 6% ABV beer imported from Strasbourg and offers UK drinkers the chance to indulge themselves with a stronger tasting, quality beer that is backed by centuries of brewing expertise that is second to none.
