Murder probe as 34-year-old man stabbed to death in Mortlake

A murder investigation has been launched after a young man was stabbed to death in south west London.

Police found the 34-year-old in Lower Richmond Road, Mortlake at 10pm on Monday. He was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to hospital. Despite the efforts of emergency services, he died 30 minutes later.

The Met said a 27-year-old woman, who was known to the man who died, was arrested close to the scene on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.

Scotland Yard said a crime scene has been put in place and homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime have been informed.

Police could not confirm whether the attack took place in a property or on the street.

Superintendent Roger Arditti from the South West Command Unit which covers Richmond said: “ “While an arrest has been made and detectives are already speaking to witnesses, I would urge anyone who was in the area around the time of the murder and who saw anything they think could assist the investigation to please get in touch. “ Anyone with information is asked to call 101 or tweet @MetCC and quote CAD8000/18Jul, or provide information anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital shortly before 9.40pm. His condition is not life threatening.

Police are still hunting his attacker.

While detectives are continuing to question four men in connection with the murder of a teenager who died after being stabbed in the neck in a south-east London park.

Police said Jeremiah Sewell, 19, from Bellingham, was attacked as he sat in a parked car at 4.40am on Saturday in Beckenham Place Park. He took himself to a south London hospital but later died from his injuries.

Two teenagers, aged 18 and 19, arrested on suspicion of murder on Sunday were being quizzed.

Two other men, aged 21 and 26, were detained on suspicion of assisting an offender.

A man will appear at the Old Bailey on Wednesday charged with murder after the body of a 21-year-old woman was found in east London.

Muhammad Arslan, 26, is accused of killing Hina Bashir, who had been reported missing from Ilford in recent days.

Ms Bashir’s body was found in Folkes Lane, Upminster, in the early hours of Sunday July 17.

Arslan, of Natal Road, Ilford, in east London, spoke only to confirm his personal details as he stood in the dock at Stratford Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
