Police have launched a murder investigation after a 66-year-old man was stabbed to death in north London.

The Met was called on Friday night at around 7.30pm to reports of a critically injured man in the communal area of flats in Lockhart Close, Enfield.

Officers attended along with ambulance colleagues and found a 66-year-old man suffering stab injuries. Despite efforts to save him he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A statement on Saturday said the man’s identity has not been formally confirmed and detectives are working towards informing his family.

Detective chief inspector Laura Nelson said that he was found critically stabbed inside a communal area of a flat block.

“I know that local people will be extremely concerned by this tragic incident, and I can assure them that dedicated detectives are investigating,” she said.

“We will do everything possible to find whoever was responsible for this killing.”

She added: “I am grateful to the local residents who assisted officers last night and this morning as our investigation commenced.

“They will continue to see police working in the area, including forensic officers and other specialists who are supporting what will be a painstaking murder investigation.

“I am appealing for information from anyone who saw anything suspicious in Lockhart Close, Derby Road, Lincoln Road and the surrounding area on Friday evening. Did you see anything or anyone unusual? If so, please call police, or to remain anonymous contact the independent charity Crimestoppers.”

Any witnesses yet to speak with police or anyone with information that may assist the investigation should call 101, ref 6185/01mar.

To remain anonymous, please contact Crimestoppers online or by calling 0800 555.
