David Haye predicts ‘brutality from round one’ with Derek Chisora ‘guaranteed’ to knock out Joseph Parker

David Haye has warned Dereck Chisora’s title fight against Joseph Parker on Saturday has no chance of going the distance and that the Londoner was “not going to leave it to the judges”.

Former boxer Haye, now Chisora’s manager, claimed his fighter had edged his previous 12-round encounter against Oleksandr Usyk in October last year despite the unanimous points decision against him.

“I thought he won that fight,” said Haye. “This time around he’s not going to leave it to the judges… to win this fight on points. I can guarantee a knockout in this fight.

“This is about how much Joseph Parker can take. It’s going to be all-out explosion from the first round. It’s going to have to be brutality from round one.”

At 37, Chisora has no plans to contemplate retirement after the weekend and has added trainer Buddy McGirt to his team in the build-up to the fight.

McGirt predicted Chisora would “get down and dirty – hit his thigh, his knee, his back, everything but his balls. We will go after everything – it’s no secret”.

In contrast, New Zealander Parker has turned, on the advice of Tyson Fury, to trainer Andy Lee, who was central to Fury unpicking Deontay Wilder in his last heavyweight encounter.

And Lee warned there were parallels between that fight and Chisora-Parker. “We might surprise you,” said Lee. “We surprised everyone with Tyson Fury against Deontay Wilder.”

Parker admitted the fight was a stepping stone to another shot at a world title while Chisora is not targeting his current next steps.

“I just want to get in positions where I fight good fights,” he said. “After that, we’ll see what happens. I’m going to do what I do best, come forward and fight. I’ll come out the gates and just go.”
