Nathan Ake insists Arsenal are title favourite despite Man City win

The momentum is now with the champions in the title race

Manchester City defender Nathan Ake believes Arsenal are still favourites for the title.

Arsenal surrendered top spot on Wednesday night after City won 3-1 at Emirates Stadium to move ahead of them on goal difference.

A Bukayo Saka penalty cancelled out Kevin De Bruyne’s opener, but Jack Grealish and Erling Haaland struck after the break to hand Pep Guardiola’s side the momentum in the title race.

The win means City are now top of the Premier League after a full round of Premier League fixtures for the first time since August.

But asked if they are favourites for the title, Ake said: “No.

“They (Arsenal) still have a game in hand so they still have three points on us so we don’t want to get carried away, we will keep doing what we are doing, go game by game and take it from there.

“We know there is still a long way to go, they have a game in hand but for us it is good to come to a tough place like this, get the win – that is important. We knew beforehand it was going to be a very big game and we just wanted to win the game and get the three points and we did.”

Ake insists City are keeping their feet on the ground as there is still a long way to go in the title race, though believes that the squad’s experience of winning major trophies could be vital in the run-in.

“We still have a long way to go but we do have that experience,” said Ake. “It is small margins, it was so tight and both teams can create something out of nothing. I think in the end we made sure we kept it tight at the back and the people up front did the business.

“We have been doing it at home we beat big teams at home. The last two against big teams we lost away so this will be good for our confidence.”
