Manchester United will face Reading in the third round of the FA Cup.

Jose Mourinho's side welcome the Royals to Old Trafford with fixtures scheduled to be played with the weekend commencing Friday 4 January.

United reached the final of last season's competition where they suffered defeat to Chelsea - sank by Eden Hazard's first-half penalty.

They beat Derby County, Yeovil Town, Huddersfield Town, Brighton and Tottenham before losing out to the Blues.

United have won the competition 12 times in history with their last success coming in the 2015-16 season, with Jesse Lingard’s last-minute stunner seeing off Crystal Palace.

Having been eliminated from the League Cup at the first hurdle by Derby County, United’s only real chance of domestic silverware comes in winning the FA Cup.

Trailing Premier League leaders Manchester City by 16 points after just 14 matches, their hopes of a title challenge are effectively over before Christmas.
