Moussa Sissoko has insisted Tottenham's players have to prove themselves to Mauricio Pochettino in "every training session" and believes he is primed to put a difficult start to life in north London behind him.

Sissoko spent the majority of the summer transfer window in limbo, having made it clear he wanted to leave Newcastle United following their relegation to the Championship.

The 27-year-old impressed at Euro 2016 and eventually completed a deadline-day move to Spurs for a fee that could rise to £30million.

The midfielder is yet to re-produce such blistering form in the early stages of his career at White Hart Lane but is not fazed by the level of expectation he has encountered under Pochettino.

"Tottenham is the biggest club I have known. You must convince in every game, every training session," he told the Mirror.

"But competition never scared me and the coach is correct.

“It makes playing the best players of the moment for the team to be always on top. If we want to win something late in the season, that is how we can get there."

Sissoko has made a total of nine appearances for Spurs this season but has missed the club's last two Premier League games due to a suspension for violent conduct.

The midfielder will serve the final game of his ban when Spurs host West Ham following the conclusion of the international break and is upbeat about the future.

“Today, all the lights are green. It's true that there has been a lot of mishaps.

"My late signing, my lack of preparation for the season, my blow to the head against Middlesbrough and this suspension.

"All that now is behind me. I have come out - grown up," he added.
