Vincent Janssen and Victor Wanyama impress for Tottenham vs Atletico

Tottenham will return to the capital from the pre-season trip to Australia without a win to their name after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid this morning.

However, Mauricio Pochettino has plenty of positives to mull over, having seen his side edged out by last year's Champions League finalists and Serie A champions Juventus.

A set piece proved to be the north Londoners undoing today as a teasing cross skipped off of Anton Walkes' and dropped to Diego Godin, who poked home from close range.

But Spurs restircted their illustrious opponents to only a handful of chances, with Jan Oblak the busier of the two goalkeepers.

Had the Slovenian not been in inspired form Christian Eriksen, Erik Lamela, Joshua Onomah and Vincent Janssen might all have been seen celebrating their first strike of the season.

Having been forced to operate on the fringes of the game against Juventus, Janssen was far more involved this time out and, looks capable of becoming a reliably deputy to Harry Kane.

Vincent Wanyama needed just 45 minutes to produce another encouraging display to suggest that both Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele might not be regarded as guaranteed starters next term.

Harry Winks also pressed his claim for regular game time and linked up well with Wanyama but question marks still remain over DeAndre Yedlin's long-term future, with another loan spell potentially on the horizon for the USA international.
