Bjorn Kuipers will referee the second game of this summer’s World Cup between Egypt and Uruguay in Yekaterinburg.

Kuipers spends the majority of his time refereeing in the Dutch Eredivise, but has experience of handling big contests across Europe and beyond.

He was appointed referee for the 2014 Champions League Final between Real Madrid and city rivals Atletico.

The 45-year old has been refereeing since 2002, and became a Fifa listed official in 2006.

Many will remember Kuipers for a controversial incident in a Champions League game between Chelsea and Paris Saint Germain at Stamford Bridge in 2015.

The Dutch official was surrounded by nine Blues' players before showing a red card to then PSG forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic after a strong challenge on Brazilian midfielder Oscar.

Egypt named a starting lineup without striker Mohamed Salah for their World Cup opener, a day after coach Hector Cuper had said he was nearly 100 percent certain to play.

Salah, who injured his shoulder in the Champions League final on May 26, came out with other players to inspect the pitch in Yekaterinburg.

However, he was missing from the starting 11 named on the team's official Twitter account, which showed Marwan Mohsen leading the attack.
