Andy Murray and wife Kim Sears take on '100 volley challenge' before Roger Federer nomination

Andy Murray had been edging ever closer to a return to tennis only for the coronavirus pandemic to deny him a return to the court - but the three-time Grand Slam champion is staying sharp at home.

The former British number one, who had been sidelined with a pelvic injury sustained in November at the Davis Cup, consequently missed the Australian Open in January.

Murray was planning to return for the Miami Open before the ATP Tour was suspended due to Covid-19 and Wimbledon has since been cancelled for the first time in 142 years.

But the 33-year-old has found ways to keep himself entertained at home during the lockdown, one being participating in Roger Federer's volley challenge.

Tennis fans from all over the world have been posting videos on social media of themselves volleying against the wall after watching the Swiss legend's own rendition, featuring several 'tweeners' and trick shots.

And that inspired a cheerful Murray and his wife, Kim Sears, to make it a couples' activity by landing 100 volleys between them without dropping the ball.

After the first failed effort, Murray's footage shows the pair - who tied the knot in 2012 - nail it on only their second attempt with 100 successful volleys.

Sears then proceeded to volley the last shot out of their garden, nearly smacking the ball against Murray's head in the process, but a warm embrace at the end appeared to show there were no hard feelings.

Murray then called on Federer and his wife to get involved next: "I can't be the only one that wants to see Rog and Mirka hitting a few balls together...".

Having been called out, will they accept the challenge?
